In a highly anticipated interview that aired Thursday, CNN's Dana Bash harshly criticized presidential candidate Kamala Harris for her past calls for a ban on fracking.
During the 2020 presidential primary, Kamala Harris said she would ban fracking.
“There's no question I'm in favor of a ban on fracking,” Harris said from the debate stage, “and it starts with what we can do from day one on public lands. We need legislation. Yes, that's what I've done in California. I have a history of working on this issue. … We have to acknowledge that the residual impacts of fracking are enormous in terms of their impact on the health and safety of our communities.”
Kamala Harris claimed she had “made it clear” that she did not want to ban fracking.

When pressed by Dana Bash about her past comments, Harris said she never promised to ban fracking.
“I made that clear in the 2020 debates,” she said. “I will not ban fracking. As vice president, I did not ban fracking. As president, I will not ban fracking.”
Dana Bash then read out Kamala's previous statements about banning fracking and asked her why she changed her mind.
“Has that campaign changed anything?” Bash asked.
CNN: You've said you support a ban on fracking. Has that changed?
Kamala: In 2020 I made my position clear. Now it's 2024. I kept my promise.
Reporter: Why did you change your position?
Kamala: Honestly, my values haven't changed. pic.twitter.com/uHxixMwe1Z

“In 2020, I made my position clear,” Harris said. “It's now 2024, and I haven't changed that position, and I don't intend to change it. I kept my promise, and I will keep it.”
“Why did you change your position at the time?” Basch asked.
“Let me be clear: my values haven't changed,” Harris said. “I believe it's critically important that we think seriously about what we need to do to protect ourselves from the clear climate crisis, and we can do that by doing what we've already done.”
Harris then cited the Inflation Control Act as an example of where she stands on the issue.
