CNN Anchor and host Dana Bash suggested Democrats are trying to attract male voters who tend not to have high testosterone levels, pointing to Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Doug Emhoff as examples of the party’s outreach to this demographic.

Prior to Bash’s comments, fellow host Jake Tapper offered his own assessment, saying the vast majority of male voters in this election supported former President Donald Trump, while the vast majority of female voters supported Vice President Kamala Harris.

“The gender gap in American politics has been very large for years,” Tapper argues, “but this year, at least according to the polls, it’s very large. Women, the women’s vote, overwhelmingly goes for Harris. Men, overwhelmingly, vote for Trump, but not by much.”

Bash quickly argued that the Democrats, who nominated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as their first female presidential candidate in 2016, were trying to bridge the gap with voters with a different approach.

“But they’re trying to push the male profile, and Tim Waltz is one of them. [and] Last night, Doug Emhoff Who can speak to men who may not be the testosterone-filled, gun-toting men who want to hear from Hulk Hogan? And so did the guys who competed at the Republican National Convention,” Bash said.

Abby Phillips, Fellow CNN The anchor argued that Democrats were presenting “a different version of America” than the Republicans did at the Republican National Convention, pointing out that while speakers at this year’s Democratic National Convention included Planned Parenthood and LGBTQ organizations, speakers at the Republican National Convention included overtly masculine figures like wrestler legend Hulk Hogan and UFC president Dana White.

Phillip said Democrats must continue to do a “balancing act” to win over voters who don’t support a “Hogan-style” candidate, but still want the party to “speak to us” with a positive message.
