Co-founder of ASOS Dies After Fall in Thailand

The co-founder of the popular fashion brand ASOS has died at the age of 58 after a fall from an 18-story building in Thailand. Quentin Griffiths was discovered on February 9th outside a luxury hotel in Pattaya, a seaside resort where he lived alone in a 17th-floor suite.

Authorities reported that the door to his room was locked from the inside and there were no indications of foul play. However, Griffiths was involved in a legal matter with his second wife, a Thai national, that may have contributed to stress. She accused him of misappropriating more than $673,000 from their fashion business.

The couple had been separated, and she pressed charges against him, leading to police questioning regarding her claims of forged documents related to the sale of their company’s land stock.

While the investigation was still underway at the time of his death, his family did not initially consider suicide as a possibility. A close family source expressed uncertainty, stating, “It’s really a mystery.” The term “suspicious circumstances” was being discussed, but there has not yet been a conclusion regarding the nature of his death.

So far, the official cause remains undetermined, with possibilities including an accident, suicide, or homicide, and the medical examiner’s findings could take weeks to finalize.

Griffiths co-founded ASOS in 2000 alongside three partners and held the position of marketing director until leaving the company four years later. He has continued to hold significant shares in the retailer, reportedly earning over $20 million from his ASOS investments over the years.

Originally named as an acronym for “As Seen On Screen,” ASOS has evolved into a global fashion powerhouse valued at approximately £3 billion ($4 billion), with notable figures like the Princess of Wales and Michelle Obama having worn its designs.

Griffiths, a father of three, moved to Thailand around 2007 following his divorce from his first wife. He later remarried a Thai woman with whom he had a son and a daughter, but they, too, have been separated for several years.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office indicated that they are providing support to the family of the deceased Briton while cooperating with local authorities.
