Virginia High School Coach Faces Serious Allegations
A Virginia high school football community is once again shaken, recalling a past scandal involving another coach just two years ago.
In 2023, Timothy Lee Meador, a teacher and coach at Union High School, pleaded guilty to disturbing charges of child solicitation and lewd conduct, according to reports. At the time, he was 28 and was subsequently barred from the school, which services around 600 students, serving only 18 months in prison.
It’s a bit murky what specific sports Meador coached, but he was at Union High while Travis Turner held the head football coaching position there.
Recent accusations against school officials bear an uncanny resemblance to those from the past.
On Tuesday, Virginia State Police announced that Turner, now 46, is wanted on serious charges, including using a computer to solicit a minor and five counts related to child pornography.
Interestingly, an employee at the school was put on administrative leave just days ago, but it hasn’t been confirmed if it’s Turner.
Unlike Meador, who was taken into custody, Turner has gone missing.
He vanished Thursday as police approached his home in suburban Appalachia to question him about the accusations and hasn’t been seen since.
A search has since been initiated across the mountainous terrain, but so far, no signs of him have emerged.
Initially, Turner insisted he hadn’t been charged with any crime, claiming that police were merely asking questions. However, the situation escalated quickly, with authorities labeling him a fugitive on Tuesday, stating he would face prosecution if found.
Turner’s family denies the allegations against him. His wife, Leslie, expressed to the media her disbelief. “There’s nothing like that. He’s a good father and a good husband,” she said, adding their desire for him to return home. “We’re all just going to sit tight until we get the news.”
