WWE Tournament Wraps Up in Saudi Arabia
The King and Queen of the Ring Tournament reached its conclusion on Saturday during WWE’s Night of Champions event in Saudi Arabia, featuring significant stakes.
Cody Rhodes emerged victorious against Randy Orton in the men’s division, while Jade Cargill claimed victory over Asuka in the women’s bracket.
“American Nightmare” Rhodes executed a move that sent Orton crashing into an exposed turnbuckle before pinning him with the Crossroads for the win. This triumph earned him a crown.
Rhodes expressed gratitude during his post-match remarks, acknowledging the challenges he faced. “I understand how much pressure this brings,” he stated, referencing his illustrious opponents like Jay Uso and Randy Orton. He emphasized, “I was born to do this.”
Meanwhile, Cargill had an intense match with Asuka. There was a moment when Asuka had Cargill in a tight submission hold, but Cargill displayed impressive resilience and escaped. She interrupted Asuka’s signature move, the “Empress Impact,” with a counterattack.
Charlotte Flair also weighed in on the pressure she feels to uphold her family’s WWE legacy. She reflected, “It felt like the world was on my shoulders when I entered this tournament… I push through despite the doubts.” She also hinted at upcoming challenges, saying, “A storm is brewing ahead of Summer Slam.”
Both Rhodes and Cargill now have guaranteed shots at world titles at Summer Slam as a result of their tournament wins. Rhodes may face John Cena in a rematch of their previous WrestleMania showdown. Earlier in the night, Cena managed to retain his title against CM Punk, who attempted to cash in on Seth Rollins’ moment but found himself thwarted.
Cargill, on the other hand, has her sights set on the women’s titles held by Tiffany Stratton or Aiyo Sky. In recent matches, Stratton defended her title, while Sky recently reclaimed hers, showcasing the competitive landscape of the women’s division.
Looking ahead, WWE has two major events lined up before the anticipated Summer Slam in August. An all-women’s premium live event, Evolution 2, will take place on July 11, followed by a main event on July 12.
