Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that cognitive testing would show that former President Donald Trump had “some serious illness.”
“You heard Nancy Pelosi say it was fair to ask whether this was a seizure or whether this was an illness. President Biden has refused to take a cognitive test. Do you think he should take a cognitive test?” host Kristen Welker asked.
“I would be happy if both the president and Donald Trump would undergo cognitive therapy,” Schiff said.
Welker responded: “So, does that mean the answer is yes?”
“I think both men should be willing to get tested, and frankly, a test would show that Donald Trump has some serious illness. But ultimately it’s going to be down to what Joe Biden thinks is best – if he’s running, he should run with all his might and defeat that son of a bitch, or if he’s passing the baton, the president should do everything he can to help the other candidate succeed,” Schiff said.
“I want to ask you what’s next,” Welker said. “We have a meeting on Capitol Hill. Leader Jeffries and Mark Warner, is the Democrats hurting with Joe Biden as the front-runner? Is there concern in the lower constituencies? Is it hurting them in the lower constituencies?”
“Right now, he’s ahead in all of the lower districts. He’s ahead of the president by a significant margin, but there’s only so much ahead he can have of the president. So Joe Biden needs to think about whether, for his own benefit and for his own merit, he can best beat Donald Trump, whether he can best beat Donald Trump. And he also needs to think about the significant impact this decision, perhaps the most important decision of his presidency, is going to have on the future of the House, the Senate and the country,” Schiff said.
