Cohen to Haberman: ‘Please start writing and I will call you soon’

Texts from Michael Cohen to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman reveal how former President Trump’s former fixer is trying to protect Trump from scrutiny over hush money payments at the center of his ongoing criminal trial. It shows how well it worked.

“Start writing and I will call you right away,” Mr. Cohen wrote to Mr. Haberman on February 6, 2018, the text shown typed as evidence in Mr. Trump’s criminal case.

Cohen then alleged that Haberman used his personal funds to pay hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who was planning to come forward about her alleged past affair with Trump just weeks before the 2016 presidential election. I sent a statement via email.

Trump is currently on trial in New York on 34 charges related to falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to Daniels.

Haberman was present to cover the trial when Cohen’s documents were read in court Tuesday.

“While this is a true statement, it is deceptive and misleading,” Cohen told prosecutors during questioning.

When Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Susan Hoffinger asked Haberman if the statements he provided were intentionally misleading, Haberman replied, “Yes,” and added, “I was trying to protect Mr. It’s to protect,” he added.

Tuesday is not the first time documents between Mr. Cohen and Mr. Haberman have been made public. The message was also shown to the jury considering the case on May 2nd.

Haberman is a veteran Times reporter and is well known in media and political circles for his reporting on former presidents. She was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for its reporting on Trump’s ties to Russia, and last year published a book about Trump’s public life and his first term.
