Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen said he was “really angry” that the former president was unable to secure bond in his New York civil fraud case.
“Yeah, he’s really angry right now,” Cohen said. Said He said this in an interview with anchor Caitlan Collins on CNN’s “The Source” on Monday night. “That’s what happens when Donald gets frustrated or gets into a situation that’s completely out of his control.”
Trump’s lawyers suggested in a court filing Monday that the former president will not be able to secure the $464 million bail he is owed in the case. He said his lawyers spent “countless hours negotiating with the world’s largest insurance companies” and approached 30 companies to support the bond.
“The judgment amount exceeds $464 million, including interest, and few bond companies would consider a bond amount approaching this amount,” Trump’s lawyers wrote.
Cohen noted that issuing bonds on the scale faced by Trump would not be an “easy” task for “anyone” to do so, but at the same time, “there are no billionaires who can write that check right away. There are a lot of people out there, and a lot of people are actually doing that.” It was issued for an amount of substantially more than $500 million. ”
The former president expressed his distaste for bail in civil fraud cases in a post on Truth Social following Monday’s charges.
“The scale of bond set by Democratic club-controlled judges in the illegal witch hunt of corrupt racist Letitia James is unconstitutional, un-American, and unprecedented. “This is virtually impossible for any company to do, including successful ones like mine,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“Bonding companies have never heard of bonds of this size and do not have the capacity to issue such bonds,” he added.
