Late-Night Hosts Praise Trump for Peace Deal with Hamas

Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel expressed support for President Donald Trump on Monday after he facilitated a peace agreement with Hamas, leading to the release of all 20 living Israeli hostages held captive.

“What a remarkable day for Donald Trump. Finally, he’s done something noteworthy. I want to give him some credit—because, you know, he often doesn’t take it himself. Trump was in Israel and Egypt today to mark the ceasefire with Hamas, and all 20 Israeli hostages are now back home after spending 738 days in captivity,” Kimmel remarked.

A prisoner exchange kicked off on Monday, with Hamas releasing its last 20 hostages in return for Israel freeing 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. This exchange was part of a broader 20-point peace initiative aimed at resolving the conflict and rejuvenating Gaza. To date, only four of the 28 presumed dead hostages have been found.

“We’re just at the start of a long, cautious journey, but the reality is the bombardments have ceased, the hostages are free, and Trump deserves some acknowledgment for that. It sounds a bit wild, but good job, President Trump. Maybe we won’t be able to invade Portland with this… Just a thought,” Kimmel added.

Colbert, another vocal Trump critic, also had kind words. “Thanks to Trump’s newly brokered ceasefire in Gaza, all living Israeli hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners were freed today. This is significant. We must acknowledge where credit is due. Donald Trump did something commendable,” he said during his show. He then humorously asked, “Is it still canceled?”

“Seriously, I tried. It’s pretty incredible to see him accomplish something positive,” he noted.

In a somewhat critical twist, Colbert also took aim at Trump’s National Guard deployments to various cities. “As much as Trump is trying to create peace in the Middle East, he’s simultaneously trying to spark conflict in the Midwest,” he joked, referencing troop movements in Chicago.

Interestingly, both Democrats and media figures appreciated Trump’s role in brokering the peace deal. Hillary Clinton, for one, commended Trump and other regional leaders for their commitment to the 20-point plan, which she described as a significant step toward moving forward.
