Late-Night Hosts React to Minneapolis Shooting
Following the shooting of Alex Preti by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis over the weekend, late-night TV hosts launched into heated, expletive-laden comments during their shows on Monday.
Thanking the crowd for braving the cold, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert host Stephen Colbert proclaimed, “I think we can all agree, damn ICE!” His remark prompted loud applause from the studio audience.
On ABC, Jimmy Kimmel took aim at federal law enforcement, stating, “Atrocity after atrocity is being perpetrated by a group of poorly trained, disgracefully directed, masked thugs.” He emphasized his disapproval, calling them “vile, ruthless, even criminal villains.” Kimmel also indicated that unrest in Minnesota stemmed from a well-organized group of left-wing activists and that new political leadership is necessary.
While expressing his support, Kimmel stated, “To the people of Minneapolis, we want the Preti family and those looking out for their neighbors to know that we stand with you and that you are not alone.”
Jon Stewart, hosting on Comedy Central, expressed outrage over the Department of Homeland Security’s support for the agent involved in Preti’s shooting. He challenged their narrative, questioning, “Are you saying the problem is that the man had a gun? Are you saying the gun is the problem?”
Interestingly, none of these hosts mentioned issues related to illegal immigration or criminal activities, even though ICE agents often face obstacles from organized groups. It feels like there’s a selective focus here, doesn’t it?
