Cold air, snow returns to US with 180 million Americans expected to plunge below average Monday

Spring-like temperatures gave millions of people across the country a little taste of the warm weather to come this spring, but more than half of the United States could feel the last days of winter’s cold on Monday as cold air moves in from Canada. It will be.

Spring officially arrives on Tuesday, but it won’t feel like it for more than 23 million people across the Southeast, where freeze watches and warnings are currently in place from Arkansas to North Carolina.

These warnings include cities such as Little Rock in Arkansas, Memphis in Tennessee, Birmingham and Montgomery in Alabama, Atlanta in Georgia, and Charlotte in North Carolina.

In addition to the cold air, heavy snowfall, including lake-effect snow, could delay movement from the Great Lakes into parts of the Northeast and central Appalachians for the first half of the new business week.

This latest round of late-season winter weather comes as a powerful low-pressure system moves across Canada, potentially producing lake-effect snow and dangerous snow squalls across the Great Lakes region into the first half of the week.

Cold air moving across the region and over the relatively warm Great Lakes will aid the development of heavy lake-effect snow in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and central New York’s Tug Hill Plateau. The time of year when winter weather moves out of an area.

NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center (WPC) said: The chance of snow will also extend to the central Appalachian slopes on Monday and Tuesday.

A cold front is also expected to move south across the Southeast by Monday, bringing in even colder air.

So, how cold will it get in the Southeast? Very cold.

Low temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s to 30s from the Midwest to the Tennessee Valley on Monday, followed by temperatures in the Mid-South and Southeast by Tuesday.

“Given the relatively mild temperatures at the end of winter, plants in these regions are susceptible to frost and freeze damage, which can damage or kill sensitive plants that are left unprotected.” warned the WPC.

The Northeast isn’t immune to late-season cold either.

Low temperatures are also expected to drop into the 20s to 30s for the first half of the week, with cities including Pittsburgh, Syracuse, New York, and Burlington, Vermont expected to remain below freezing until Wednesday.

As spring approaches, warmer air will slowly return to the United States, but 180 million people will feel the end-of-season cold of winter on Monday.

More than 150 million people will still feel the cold on Tuesday, and nearly 90 million people are expected to experience below-normal temperatures on Wednesday.
