Governor Wes Moore’s Response to ICE and Minneapolis Police Collaboration
During an appearance on CNN’s “The Source,” Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) addressed the idea of ICE collaborating with Minneapolis police, suggesting that such an approach “would make the situation even worse.”
Host Kaitlan Collins presented a clip where border czar Tom Homan claimed, “Minneapolis, you’re a sanctuary city. If they put us in jail and stopped being a sanctuary city, we could arrest bad guys in the safety and security of a jail… In a place that’s not a sanctuary, one officer can go into the jail and arrest one criminal illegal alien. But if you release them into the community, we have to send out a whole team to arrest someone on their turf. It’s dangerous for the officers, for the foreigners, and definitely for the community.”
Collins later inquired, “Maryland is not a sanctuary state. Governor, if you were to work with the police in Minneapolis, would that matter for your administration?”
Governor Moore firmly responded, stating, “No, because what he just said is not only factually incorrect, it’s operationally stupid. In Maryland, we uphold the Constitution and ensure laws are followed. The people here want public safety prioritized. I have no tolerance for violent criminals. Our policy mandates that anyone committing a violent crime, particularly with a firearm, is handcuffed within 24 hours. This approach has led to a nearly 50% decrease in violent crime since I took office. We practice constitutional policing. Collaborating with the community improves crime solving and enhances safety. Inaccurate claims like those from Tom Homan will only exacerbate the situation.”
