Collin Gosselin claims his mother is trying to harm his reputation for her own benefit

Collin Gosselin Accuses Mother of Abuse in Memoir

Collin Gosselin is speaking out against his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, claiming that she has attempted to “bury” him to maintain her public persona. This comes to light as he discusses allegations of childhood abuse in his new memoir, titled “In the Shadow of Eight.”

In a recent interview, Collin, who appeared on “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” mentioned he hasn’t had any communication with Kate since he was 13. He expressed that before he could even think about reconciling, he would need an apology and some form of accountability from her.

“Really, I just want an apology. That’s simply put,” said Collin, now 22. He added, “I think it would be very powerful for her to honestly admit the harm she caused to protect her reputation.” According to him, she prioritizes her image over his well-being.

In his memoir, Collin talks about enduring physical abuse, isolation, and being forced to take psychiatric medication during his formative years. He also likened his time in a treatment facility to juvenile detention, an experience that left him with long-lasting emotional scars.

Despite the difficult past, Collin held onto a glimmer of hope even during the darkest times. “There was very little hope at times, but I just kept telling myself there’s a better future ahead,” he reflected.

He revealed that carrying the weight of his story for years before finally deciding to share it has been a massive relief. “It was heavy on my heart, my whole life,” he said. “But now it feels right to finally do this.” He also described a painful memory from when he was 13, recounting how his mother berated him for 20 minutes without acknowledging the time they had lost.

Collin mentioned that the psychiatric medication he was given made him feel like a “zombie,” adding that his childhood was a deeply isolating experience, far removed from the fame the family enjoyed on camera.

Though he has yet to reconnect with Kate, he hasn’t completely closed the door on receiving a call from her. However, he emphasizes that forgiveness should come with accountability. “It’s easy to say ‘I’m sorry,’ but what does it mean if there are no actions to back it up?” he asked.

Now, Collin is stepping back into the public eye as a contestant on the fifth season of FOX’s “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.” He expressed that this opportunity has special significance for him, noting it feels empowering to re-enter reality television on his own terms.

Collin stressed that children should have a say in whether their lives are shared publicly, saying, “When a child does not want to be on TV, that should be their decision.” His memoir, “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” is available now.
