Colorado Buffaloes removed from bowl eligibility after defeat

Colorado State Football’s Losing Streak Continues

It looks like Colorado State football is facing another challenging season under head coach Deion Sanders. The team suffered a 29-22 defeat against West Virginia on Saturday, which means they have been knocked out of bowl contention. This marks the second time in three years that the Buffaloes will end the season with a losing record.

Following the game, Sanders expressed frustration and disappointment. “This isn’t who we are as a team. We deserve more, and I want more,” he said. He believes the coaching and players are capable of delivering better performances but acknowledged needing to take responsibility as the head coach. “I don’t think we’ve faced a team that is significantly better than us athletically or physically,” he added, standing firm in his perspective.

As the season progressed, questions arose regarding how the team would fare after losing stars like quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL. Both players played critical roles during Sanders’ earlier coaching years at Jackson State.

Before the recent game, Sanders made the decision to start five-star freshman Julian Lewis as quarterback. In his debut start, Lewis managed to throw two touchdown passes. The coaching staff had been experimenting with quarterbacks Kaidon Salter and Ryan Staub for the first part of the season.

With only two games left and Lewis now having lost the chance for a redshirt year, hope seems to be dwindling for this season. Last year, the team performed well, finishing with a 9-4 record, and Sanders had signed a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $54 million through 2029.

Colorado State Athletics Director Rick George shared his support for Sanders, remarking on the challenges of the year and praising Sanders’ perseverance. “He’s working hard and motivating the team; now, we just need to win more games,” he stated.

In another note, Sanders had recently undergone surgery to remove his bladder after a tumor was discovered, but he has since been given a clean bill of health, with no signs of cancer following the procedure. He faced skepticism about his ability to continue coaching, yet he has remained dedicated to his role.
