A Colorado daycare worker was arrested for 51 counts of child abuse and harassment, allegedly slapping a 2-year-old in care before throwing a racial slur at a crying toddler, police said.
Brandon Vigil, 32, was arrested on February 10 after attacking a child in a classroom full of students at an undisclosed childcare facility on September 5, 2024. Announced on Wednesday.
The crazy caretaker, hired as a preschool teacher in February 2024, was fired the day after a violent outburst.
Authorities said the vigil was present with 14 two-year-olds and threw sleeping pads and other items around the classroom he was caring for.
The teacher's assistance, who witnessed the violent incident, said the all-nighters seemed annoyed and sick, as their temperament seemed escalating when the children were out of the way. The toddler he is accused of hitting, “For him, it wasn't moving fast,” deputies said.
The crazy teacher is said to have called the crying child a racial slurred, but police did not specify what the vigil said.
The “shocked” aid reported the incident to her boss and the police, adding that the vigil had been verbally abused by children in the past. No prior incidents were reported, deputies said.

However, reviewing footage from the childcare facility, investigators discovered several instances of “harmful, degraded, and humiliating” behaviors by teachers towards young children.
When police obtained a warrant for his arrest, Vigill was charged with 28 counts of child abuse and 23 counts of harassment.
The Sheriff's Office is working with Colorado Childcare Licences and Management and Arapaho County Child Protection Services as an investigation is underway.
