Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis recently criticized President Joe Biden for putting “family over country” by pardoning his son Hunter Biden, saying he set a “bad precedent.” .

The criticism stems from President Biden's decision Sunday night to pardon his son Hunter after he was indicted on federal firearms charges and tax evasion charges.

“As a father, I certainly understand President Joe Biden's understandable desire to help his son by pardoning him, but I am disappointed that he put his family above his country. This is a bad precedent that could be exploited by future presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation,” Polis (D-Colo.) wrote to X.

“When you become president, your role is to be the family of the people,” he added, quoting the Latin expression for head of household.

“Hunter brought upon himself the legal problems he faced. One can sympathize with his struggle, while at the same time recognizing that no one is above the law, not the president or the president's son.” he continued.

Hunter Biden recently pleaded guilty to tax evasion totaling $1.4 million stemming from “consultancy work” in China and Ukraine, a case that likely would have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence.

Additionally, Democratic Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) also condemned Biden's decision to pardon his son, increasing bipartisan criticism of President Biden for putting his son “above the law.”

“While I respect President Biden, I think he got this wrong. This was not a politically motivated prosecution. Hunter committed a felony and was convicted by a jury of his peers. ” Stanton wrote on the X Post.

Meanwhile, President Biden claimed his son had been “selectively and unfairly prosecuted.”

“The charges in his case only came after several of my political opponents in Congress attacked me and incited me to oppose my election. As the deal unraveled in court, many political opponents in Congress took credit for bringing political pressure to the process. Had the plea deal been made, it would have resulted in a fair and reasonable resolution to Hunter's case. That's right,” Biden said in a statement.

Social media users quickly resurfaced a hypocritical post that Biden had previously shared in connection with President Donald Trump's lawsuit: “No one is above the law.”

Criticizing the sarcasm and hypocrisy of Biden's previous post, X (Twitter) even published a community note about it.

“Joe Biden is pardoning his son Hunter, in part, by pardoning him for not just a single crime, but every actual or potential crime he committed or did not commit over an 11-year period. “We have demonstrated that our people are effectively above the law,” the memo said.

Users also pointed out how Hunter's stated exculpation date in President Biden's letter coincided with the beginning of Hunter's “business” relationship in Ukraine.

One user pointed out, “Hunter Biden's criminal pardon deadline seems to line up perfectly with his corruption in Ukraine…seriously, what are the odds?”

Prior to the pardon, Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced on federal gun charges Wednesday.
