Reports indicate that a 16-year-old student from a Colorado high school shot two classmates before taking his own life. The student, identified as Desmond Holly, had shown an interest online in previous mass shootings, including Columbine, as well as neo-Nazi views.

In July, Holly’s online activities were reported to the FBI, according to a local news outlet. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is now examining his digital footprint closely.

Holly was reportedly active on a platform named Gore Forum Watch Pepredy, where he commented on various mass shootings, including those in Parkland (2018), Buffalo (2022), and the Quebec City Mosque (2017). The ADL’s report alleges that he collected tactical gear and posted content that mirrored earlier shooters.

The incident occurred on a Wednesday at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, a location historically marked by the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999. Unfortunately, details surrounding Holly’s selection of victims remain unclear.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that Holly had been radicalized by an unidentified “extremist network,” although specific details have not been disclosed.

ADL noted that Holly’s TikTok activity was filled with white supremacist imagery, and his accounts were recently banned from the platform, as TikTok confirmed to the Associated Press.

Following the shooting, Senator Chris Coons expressed concern about how the internet might be fostering extremism, especially in the wake of recent violent events.

The ADL warned that young people can easily access extreme content online, potentially increasing the risks of ideologically driven violence. This issue underscores a broader concern about the influence of digital media on youth behavior.

As of now, the conditions of the two victims, who were hospitalized, remain unclear. There is still no consensus on whether Holly targeted his victims or if the shooting was random.
