Kevin Bui, now 20, pleaded guilty last week to starting a late-night fire near Denver in August 2020, when he was just 16 years old.

He reportedly used Apple’s Find My iPhone app to track the stolen phone to the general area. However, he mistakenly thought that the house containing the innocent family was the house with the stolen cell phone.

Bui also told police that in addition to his mobile phone, money and shoes belonging to him were also stolen.

While it has no bearing on the severity of the violent crime, it is unclear how police were able to determine that Bui’s belongings were not at that particular residence.

Prosecutors said Boui, who was 16 at the time, was the alleged ringleader of a trio of friends who planned the mass blaze that killed a Senegalese family, including two girls, as they slept.

Djibril Diol, 29, Aja Diol, 23, their 22-month-old daughter Khadija Diol, and relatives Hassan Diol, 25, and their 6-month-old daughter Hawa.・Bay-chan also died in this fire.

Three other unnamed people were also seriously injured while trying to escape from the second floor of their home in the middle of the night.

Surveillance camera footage showed Bui and two of his friends, the arsonists, wearing masks and black hoodies, setting the house on fire. Law enforcement was able to identify the suspect after obtaining a search warrant to hand over to Google an IP address that was pinged near the home address at the time of the incident.

As a result, approximately five months after the fire occurred, an ongoing investigation was concluded and the teens were eventually arrested.

The ringleader, Bui, was indicted as an adult and pled guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in a plea agreement, requiring a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison and 30 years in prison for each charge.

Meanwhile, a second accomplice, Gavin Seymour, now 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison in March.

Finally, for the 2020 crime, “17-year-old Dillon Siebert was sentenced to seven years in prison for his role during a hearing in Denver District Court.” CBS News. Seibert was only 14 years old at the time of the crime, making him the youngest arsonist’s accomplice.

The two boys helped Bui with his revenge plan.

Bui’s sentencing is scheduled for July 2nd.n.d..
