Colorado Middle School Secretary Wanted for Sexual Charges Involving 13-Year-Old Student

A 34-year-old middle school administrator in Colorado is currently evading law enforcement, accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old student over several months. Reports indicate that he groomed the boy with alcohol and marijuana after their initial meeting in a Walmart parking lot.

In Greeley, Colorado, authorities have been unable to find Brenda Meza since her initial interrogation, during which she purportedly confessed to engaging in sexual relations with an eighth-grader from Franklin Middle School, as stated in an arrest affidavit.

Earlier this month, the Greeley police department, located about 90 miles north of Denver and home to 114,000 residents, announced that Meza is wanted on multiple felony charges.

In addition to her role at the school, which includes coaching a cross-country team and advising a gaming club, Meza reportedly expressed infatuation with the boy, citing feelings of jealousy when he interacted with other girls at school, as detailed in the arrest document.

She allegedly told the boy that he felt familiar to her, saying she knew him “from another life.” However, one girl remarked that the notion was “banal.”

An anonymous tip to school officials about the inappropriate relationship surfaced in early February. Following school inquiries, Meza confessed to her husband, who subsequently contacted law enforcement.

The affidavit describes a pattern of grooming behaviors often seen in cases of sexual misconduct by educators, particularly when the perpetrator is female and the victim is male. It describes a series of suggestive interactions and explicit exchanges of photos following their communication during the previous Thanksgiving holiday.

According to police, events intensified in January when Meza met the boy again in a Walmart parking lot, where she provided marijuana edibles and ready-to-drink cocktails for their consumption, leading to sexual activity.

A few weeks later, they repeated these actions at a local park, after which the boy’s secretary dropped him off at his home.

The victim, who had been enrolled at Franklin for two years, also disclosed to detectives that there had been another encounter at the same park.

Before her termination from the district, Meza had worked as a substitute teacher before becoming secretary at Franklin in 2020. However, she disappeared before officials could act.

Greeley police plan to file 12 felony charges against her, including sexual assault of a child, Internet enticement of a child, and aiding the delinquency of a minor.
