High School Shooting in Colorado: Details Emerge

A shooter who injured two students at Evergreen High School, located near Denver, has been identified as a 16-year-old boy. Authorities revealed on Thursday that he had been influenced by what they termed an “extremist network.” The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Wednesday.

The shooter, named Desmond Holly, attacked one victim inside the school and another outside before taking his own life, according to reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Among the injured was 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone, as confirmed by the authorities. His family, in a statement, expressed gratitude for community support but requested privacy as they navigate this challenging time.

Jackie Kelly, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, mentioned that Holly appeared to have been radicalized through several extremist influences. This conclusion stems from evidence found during a search of his residence and phone.

Currently, two victims are receiving treatment at St. Anthony’s Hospital in critical condition. It remains unclear if Holly specifically targeted these individuals or if the shootings were random.

According to Kelly, Holly demonstrated a concerning pattern during the incident, repeatedly firing and reloading his weapon. Fortunately, he was stopped by a secure door, preventing him from entering other areas of the school where students had been evacuated.

In total, more than 100 police officers responded to the situation at the school, which has an enrollment of over 900 students. Officers were able to locate Holly within five minutes of their arrival at the scene.

FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned the bureau’s ongoing collaboration with other agencies to investigate the case, emphasizing their thoughts are with the injured and everyone affected by this tragic event.

Historically, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also played a significant role in the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, which resulted in 14 deaths.
