Colorado teenager shot in face looking for location for homecoming photos

A 17-year-old boy was allegedly shot in the face by a landowner who is a Mountain View, Colorado, city council member while looking for a place to take homecoming photos, authorities said.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said 38-year-old Brent Metz was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, two counts of felony menacing, unlawful discharge of a firearm and two counts of reckless endangerment.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the 23000 block of Pleasant Park Road after a homeowner reported two trespassers on her property. The homeowner also notified her boyfriend about trespassers on her property.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles parked on the side of Pleasant Park Road and when one of the officers approached they found a teenage boy bleeding profusely from his face.

The boy was accompanied by another boy who was applying pressure to his friend's wounds with his shirt.

Standing nearby was a man named Metz, who the victim claimed had shot him in the face through the windshield of his car.

The victim told deputies he went to the property with a friend and asked if they could use it as a location to take homecoming photos.

The boys parked their car near the gate of the home, then hopped the fence and walked up the driveway to speak to the homeowner, but no one appeared to be home, so the victim told the deputy he and a friend walked around the property to try to locate the homeowner.

Still, there was no one around, so the boys returned to their car, where the victims said they wrote a note to the homeowner asking for permission to use the property to take photographs.

As the boys were writing the notes, the boys allege that a man they and their friend had never seen before pulled up next to them, got out of the truck and fired a shot through the windshield, hitting the driver in the face.

The sheriff's office said the gun allegedly used in the shooting was located in Metz's truck.

The sheriff's office also told Fox News Digital that the two boys were unlikely to be charged with second-degree trespassing, noting that they did not have any malicious intent when they entered the property and asked the homeowner for permission to take photographs.

As of Thursday, the victim remained hospitalized with severe facial injuries.

Metz was transported to headquarters, where he was processed and booked into jail, after which he was released on $5,000 bail.
