Comer: Democrats' threat of contempt is making the Clintons testify about Epstein

Clintons to Testify in Epstein Investigation

The chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Republican Rep. James Comer from Kentucky, announced that former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will participate in transcribed and filmed depositions regarding their connections to Jeffrey Epstein. This decision came after they faced the threat of a contempt vote, which, interestingly, garnered support from some Democrats.

During an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” Comer noted that when the Clintons were absent from a scheduled testimony, there was significant frustration among committee members. “Surprisingly, a majority of Democrats on the oversight committee voted along with all Republicans,” he added.

Comer highlighted that some Democrats had recently spoken with victims associated with Epstein, implying a shared interest in questioning individuals who had spent time with him, which includes the Clintons. Notably, Bill Clinton has been photographed with Epstein in the past.

Without their agreement to testify at the Capitol this week, the Clintons could have faced contempt of Congress charges. Previous votes indicated that such measures were likely to pass; just last month, the committee’s Democrats, along with all Republicans, voted to escalate a contempt resolution against Bill Clinton to the full House. Moreover, three Democratic senators had supported a resolution against Hillary Clinton as well.

The investigation aims to uncover what the Clintons knew about Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, particularly looking into Hillary’s role when she managed U.S. efforts to combat international sex trafficking while serving as secretary of state.

Comer remarked that the Clintons initially sought to avoid their deposition but ultimately could not. He described their tactics as somewhat desperate, saying, “They spent a week threatening me, saying our subpoenas weren’t legal, and then they tried to rally Democrats to not vote yes to make it a partisan vote, thinking they could win in court.” Interestingly, it seems some Democrats were indeed open to holding the Clintons in contempt.

The House suspended contempt hearings against the Clintons after they agreed to testify, but committee Democrats pointed out that Comer hadn’t taken action against others who similarly failed to appear. Additionally, there’s an ongoing issue with the Ministry of Justice for not providing all requested documents related to Epstein by Congress’s deadline. Although they have released some documents, not all were delivered as planned.

Comer also mentioned that the audio and video of the depositions will be public, stating, “Every American will be able to see the entirety of this deposition.”
