Comer To Subpoena U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) plans to subpoena U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify about the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.

“The Secret Service has confirmed that Director Cheatle plans to appear at the committee hearing on July 22, but to thwart any attempt by the Department of Homeland Security to remove her from attendance, the Chairman will issue a subpoena for her to appear,” a committee spokesperson said in a statement. “Director Cheatle must be accountable to Congress and the American people for the historic failures that occurred under her watch.”

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, R.N. post The planned oversight briefing was meant to be the “first opportunity” to ask “very important and difficult questions.”

“The American people need 100 percent transparency, and they need it now,” Stefanik said. “Once they have a chance to ask those questions, I think a decision will be made.”

The House Homeland Security Committee also confirmed it will hold another hearing on July 23.rd Along with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Cheatle.

“The American people demand an explanation for what happened in Pennsylvania on Saturday,” Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) demanded in a statement. “Secretaries Mayorkas and Cheatle lead departments and agencies tasked with protecting homeland security and protecting our nation’s top executives and candidates, and Secretary Wray leads an agency with the grave responsibility of investigating this assassination attempt.”

Mayorkas had said attempted assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks would never have “made such direct eye contact with the former president.”

Trump was speaking on an outdoor stage in Pennsylvania on Saturday when he was hit in the ear by a bullet from a 20-year-old gunman who climbed to the roof of a building outside the rally’s security perimeter and fired multiple shots into the crowd.
