James Comey’s Controversial Instagram Post
On May 15th, James Comey, the former FBI director, shared a puzzling message on his Instagram. The post was soon taken down after it drew substantial criticism, with many interpreting it as a call for violence against President Trump. Comey quickly refuted these claims, stating that he opposes violence in all forms and believed his message was simply political.
However, opinions on this matter vary significantly. Investigative reporter Brena Morello firmly asserts that the content was indeed an incitement to violence.
“I think these folks really have a knack for stirring things up on both the radical left and right,” she commented.
Peterson also weighed in, suggesting that Comey’s past position—leading a powerful executive agency—makes his post particularly concerning. He hinted that recent assassination attempts and the “weaponization of deep divisions” have heightened sensitivities around these types of messages.
National Intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard also shared her view, describing Comey’s message as a direct threat. Appearing on Fox News with Jesse Watters, she remarked that Comey seemed to have been “targeting” President Trump.
“It’s an outrageous statement that fits this context, especially coming from someone with his background,” she added. Gabbard emphasized that individuals like Comey should be held accountable under the law for such threats.
She concluded that, in her opinion, Comey should face imprisonment for what he posted on Instagram.
“Tulsi Gabbard is definitely on point,” Morello mentioned. “People like Ryan Wesley Routh might react strongly to something similar that Comey just shared, and that’s concerning.”
President Trump seemed to have caught the same drift. He told Bret Baier of Fox News, “It definitely implied assassination. While he may not have been skilled, he knew what that meant.”
