Sam Hartman: A New Face for the Washington Commanders
Quarterback Sam Hartman, previously of Wake Forest and Notre Dame, is making waves as he steps onto the field with the Washington Commanders. At 26, Hartman has garnered attention not just for his skills but also for his distinctive long hair and scruffy beard, marking him as a notable presence in the NFL.
Interestingly, during a recent training camp session, a fan asked him to send a shoutout to her mom. “Sam, could you please say hello to mom Susan? She thinks you’re so hot,” the woman requested. Hartman responded with a grin, saying, “Susan, I don’t discriminate against age, but I appreciate your support.” It was one of those light and funny moments that fans cherish, really.
Even as he engaged with fans, Hartman was also focused on earning a spot on the team’s roster. The unofficial depth chart has him currently in fourth place behind Jaden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, and Josh Johnson. It’s a tough spot, I imagine, but competition can be motivating.
Hartman has a solid football background. He racked up impressive stats during his college career, throwing for over 12,900 yards and 110 touchdowns at Butler University. After transferring to Notre Dame, he added another 2,689 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to his tally. Despite not being drafted in 2024, he signed with the Commanders and worked his way up from the practice squad.
As he continues to navigate this training camp, fans and teammates alike are curious to see how things unfold for him. It’s a mix of anticipation and uncertainty, which is pretty much the essence of sports, right? Who knows what might happen as the preseason unfolds.
