Intense Gubernatorial Debate in Iowa
The recent gubernatorial debate in Davenport, Iowa, took an intense turn when Republican candidate Zach Lahn launched a vehement attack against his Democratic opponent, State Auditor Rob Sand.
During the debate on Tuesday evening, Lahn aggressively countered Sand’s claims regarding his residency qualifications for the race.
‘I will do whatever it takes to protect my kids from those who would seek to exploit them, like you. I also promise the voters of Iowa this: I will protect your children from those who would exploit them,’ Lahn declared.
Lahn criticized Sand for making the residency controversy the “central lie” of his campaign.
“He has been spreading this falsehood using funds from his family to dominate the airwaves. People are seeing it everywhere,” Lahn remarked.
“But here’s the thing. Rob, you’re now facing someone who won’t be intimidated by your family’s wealth. It’s just not going to happen. I can’t be intimidated like that. The fact is, I’m a sixth-generation Iowan. I live in Iowa now. I’ve always lived in Iowa. Rob has lied about this, and the real issue concerns my blended family and how my kids split their time,” he added.
“But Rob has chosen to focus his campaign around this issue,” Lahn said.
“And yes, I travel. I travel for work and for family reasons. But you know who else travels? Rob. He has been to Aspen, Colorado, to his family’s $77 million mansion there. He drives across the state in a Ford F-150, yet when he gets home, he hops into a $200,000 Mercedes G-Wagon. Rob is not being truthful about himself,” Lahn continued.
“And he’s definitely not being truthful about who I am. But let me be clear, this issue is about one thing: my children. That’s it. I have a blended family, and they share their time between us. I refuse to be intimidated regarding this matter,” he stated.
“I will exert every effort necessary to protect my children from those who seek to exploit them like you,” Lahn concluded. “My commitment to the voters of Iowa extends to defending your children from those who’d exploit them, like Rob Sand.”

Lahn’s campaign shared a video of his performance during the debate, which garnered positive responses online.
“Last night, my phone blew up with enthusiasm from conservatives all over Iowa thrilled to witness [Zach Lahn] humiliate Rob Sand in the Iowa Governor’s debate. This might just be the most significant feedback I’ve ever received from an Iowa debate,” noted BlazeTV host Steve Deace on Facebook.
“I would go to any length for @ZachLahn right now,” he added on social media.
“It was a complete dismantling of the lies from leftist Rob Sand. We cannot let Iowa fall into the hands of these left-wing frauds!” Donald Trump Jr. reacted on social media.
Meanwhile, Sand also uploaded clips from the debate that evening. In one post, he expressed, “This election is a choice between a candidate ready for change and one merely changing addresses. A decade of unchecked one-party rule has led to a crisis in cancer care, water quality issues, and Iowan families struggling to afford gas and groceries. It’s time for some rotation in Iowa.”
The upcoming election will determine if Democrats can gain control of the governor’s office in Iowa, especially as Republican Governor Kim Reynolds is set to retire.
