America is facing an economic challenge that many might not fully grasp. For years, it seems that lawmakers in Washington have overlooked how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been subtly undermining American industries by flooding the market with cheap, subsidized goods. Thankfully, with President Trump, that blind eye has been opened, but the struggle is far from over.
Now, when you hear about “dumping,” it might not sound too serious at first. But, in reality, it’s one of the most damaging tactics that the CCP employs against the U.S. Simply put, dumping is when a country reduces the price of its goods—often through subsidies—allowing those goods to flood other markets and undercut local production. It’s a manipulation of the free market, leveraging government support to create excess supply and mess with pricing.
Politicians in the past have let multinational companies shift American jobs overseas, but Trump has said that’s enough. On his first day in office, he initiated the America First Trade Policy, which aimed to reevaluate tariffs, especially on Chinese products, to ensure they are tough enough to deter dishonest practices. Unlike prior administrations, Trump’s approach is about decisively tackling dumping on a global scale.
President Trump’s efforts to confront Beijing form part of a broader strategy to shield America from significant threats.
Trump is making moves, but let’s be honest—China is resilient, inventive, and patient in its strategies. The CCP continually looks for loopholes, whether that’s through shifting product categories or using third-party nations to bypass restrictions. The U.S. needs to keep a firm stance with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, enforcing antidumping measures and ensuring that China sticks to its trade commitments.
Industries grappling with the CCP’s aggressive tactics form a crucial part of the American economy—think steel, aluminum, automobiles, and more. These sectors provide millions of jobs. When Chinese firms dump low-cost, subsidized items in our markets, American producers struggle to keep up in a landscape where China doesn’t abide by the same rules.
This isn’t just happenstance; it’s a deliberate strategy by China. The CCP aims to infiltrate the largest economic markets, eliminate competition, and ultimately make the U.S. and Europe reliant on China’s manufacturing.
Currently, China dominates roughly 60% of the global rare earth mining market and an astounding 90% of its refining capabilities. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum pointed out the tactics used by the CCP, stating they will target specific minerals, flood the market, and drive prices down, rendering American companies unprofitable.
Many in the West still underestimate the threats posed by China’s control over rare earth elements.
On the steel front, China stands as the world’s leading producer and exporter, with exports expected to grow by 7.5% from 2024 to 2025. The Trump administration is already investigating China’s overcapacity in steel, anticipating a global surplus of about 721 million tons by 2027.
Moreover, China has a grip on 60% of glyphosate supply, a key chemical for herbicides. If the U.S. leans too heavily on China for this crucial element, it raises significant national security concerns.
The auto sector is also at risk. For instance, in 2023, China boosted exports of car chassis to Europe by 327%, which threatens local manufacturing there. We can’t let that happen in the U.S. as well.
President Trump’s administration comprehends the gravity of this issue.
With a series of tariffs, trade investigations, and a renewed focus on America’s economic sovereignty, Trump has done more to highlight the CCP’s deceptive trade practices than any modern president. American manufacturers, farmers, and workers are undoubtedly better off for it.
Congress has also empowered the president through specific provisions of the Trade Act of 1974, allowing for import tariffs to protect domestic industries. The Trump administration has been effective in utilizing these powers.
Each time the CCP’s dumping schemes go unchecked, American factories face escalating threats. Delays in enforcement only empower China to push harder. There’s no room for complacency. What’s needed now is unity, determination, and a steadfast America First approach.
Trump is committed to safeguarding American labor from the onslaught of CCP dumping. We can’t back down simply when the tides turn against us. China is likely counting on our resolve to weaken. That cannot be allowed to happen.
