Trump’s “1, Big Beautiful Building” Legislation Expected to Pass
The “1, Big Beautiful Building” bill, championed by President Donald Trump, is on track to be approved by Congress and signed into law before the July 4th deadline.
The House of Representatives gave the Senate version the green light on Thursday, resulting in a narrow vote of 218-214.
The Senate had previously approved the measure on July 1 with a tight 51-50 vote, where Vice President JD Vance cast the deciding ballot. Although the Senate made some controversial amendments, the bill returned to the House for final approval.
On July 3rd, after overcoming significant internal resistance from the GOP and a lengthy protest speech by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the House successfully passed the bill. Yet, GOP Speaker Mike Johnson managed to rally enough support among Republicans.
Following the final approval in the House, President Trump is set to sign the bill on July 4th. Details of the signing ceremony and its implications will be shared.
Key Policy Changes Include:
- Tax Reduction: The extensions to Trump-era tax policies will now be permanent, excluding potential overtime taxes.
- Medicaid/SNAP Revisions: Stricter work requirements will lead to reductions, excluding illegal immigrants as recipients. “We will secure Medicaid for American citizens who need it most,” says Lisa McClain (R-Mich.).
- Defense and Border Security: Increased funding for military initiatives and enforcement against illegal immigration including “Golden Dome” missile defense, border security, and deportation efforts.
- Clean Energy: A rollback of the Green Energy Tax Credit.
Various enforcement departments—including Treasury, HHS, Defense, and DHS—will start implementing these changes, affecting tax withholding, immigration policies, Medicaid rules, and energy incentives.
However, political analysts anticipate legal challenges, particularly regarding the work mandate for Medicaid and SNAP, alongside resistance from multiple Democrats concerning ongoing discussions about social safety nets and environmental policies.
