Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are scheduled to attend a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony Tuesday honoring 13 service members who lost their lives in the failed Afghanistan withdrawal effort.

The ceremony will be hosted by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and will include Gold Star family members of those killed in the Kabul airport attack.

As the ceremony is scheduled to take place, Republicans will seek to condemn the Biden administration's role in the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, which ended in a suicide bombing outside Kabul airport, killing 13 U.S. troops and leaving several more stranded as the Taliban retake control of the country.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee released its report on the Afghanistan withdrawal on Monday, accusing President Biden of continuing to ignore repeated warnings because he has “put politics and his own personal legacy above American national security interests.”

“Our investigation makes clear that the Biden-Harris administration had the information and the opportunity to take the steps necessary to prepare for the inevitable collapse of the Afghan government and safely evacuate Americans, U.S. citizens, green card holders, and our brave Afghan allies,” House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said in a statement. “Yet at every step of the process, the administration prioritized appearances over safety.”

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery with 13 military families in August.

Vice President Kamala Harris said the visit was purely political, but 45 Gold Star familiesNumber The video released after the visit showed members of Harris' family, who also criticized her for showing consideration for their families in recent Trump campaign ads.

“We just got a call from President Trump,” a family member says in the ad. “President Trump came to visit us.”
