Congresswoman charged in connection with ICE incident in blue city

Charges Against Congressman McQuiver

In the New Jersey area, U.S. Attorney Alina Haba has charged Representative Lamonica McQuiver with misconduct related to law enforcement actions that took place earlier this month outside Delaney Hall. Interestingly, the trespass charges against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka were dismissed.

In a statement shared on X, Haba said, “Today, my office accused Congressman McQuiver of violating Title 18, US Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting and obstructing law enforcement.” Alongside this, Haba clarified her decision to dismiss the charges against Baraka after thorough consideration.

Baraka had faced a misdemeanor trespassing charge at a facility operated by the GEO Group and appeared in court last Thursday. Haba was present at this hearing.

After his court appearance, Baraka remarked, “I believe this has been targeted.” He was among a group of protesters, which included councillors McIver, Robert Menendez Jr., and Bonnie Watson Coleman, outside the ICE facility last week.

I mean, it’s interesting; someone like DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, stating, “If it’s a typical US citizen and they try to plunge into a detention facility that houses dangerous criminals, they’ll be arrested. It doesn’t mean you are beyond the law just because you are a member of Congress or a civil servant.” That’s a point that kind of stands out, doesn’t it?

However, McIver and others have claimed that “the ice was confused,” suggesting they inadvertently instigated the situation. McIver expressed frustration, stating, “The way we were treated at Delaney Hall is almost incredible. They downplayed us and tried to stop us from conducting our elected surveillance.” She emphasized their commitment to their cause in a post on X.

This arrest followed days of protests, as activists were seeking access to the facility, which has recently been upgraded to immigration detention. The city alleges that it is operating without the necessary certification, while the GEO Group maintains its compliance with local laws.

Recently, after another protest, a large yellow barricade was erected in front of Delaney Hall’s entrance, along with signs warning against trespassing on private property. There’s definitely a lot going on in this situation, and it seems to be evolving.

Fox News Digital reached out to McIver’s office for comments, but no response has been provided at this time.
