The 32-year-old man, who accused him of holding his stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan at his home for 20 years in Waterbury, Connecticut, spoke to him for the first time since fleeing his home.
The man who wanted to be identified only as a “S” issued a statement on Tuesday representing him as a spokesman through survivor David Guarino.
“I’m much better and stronger than the day my first responder kicked me out of the house. I’ve been grateful for the care I’ve received ever since,” says S. “I would like to thank all the medical professionals who helped and raised me. In addition to all your care, I was grateful for the opportunity to hold my first birthday party to celebrate turning 32.”

Guarino declined to comment further.
“S” is said to have set fire to a house she shared with her stepmother on February 27th, telling her first responder that she wanted her own freedom.
After the investigation, Sullivan was Arrested on March 12th He was then charged with first-degree attacks, second-degree lures, first-degree illegal suppression, cruelty to others, and first-degree reckless danger.

According to Sullivan’s arrest warrant, “S” said it had no access to the bathroom for 20 years in an 8-foot x 9-foot storage closet with no air conditioning or heat without heat. He is said to have been kept in a closet 22-24 hours a day.
“S” told police he was allowed two sandwiches and two small water bottles every day. He said he used water bottles and newspapers to dispose of the waste. The man weighed less than 70 pounds when the first responder found him after the fire.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Sullivan’s lawyer, Ioannis Kaloidis, denied that Sullivan knew anything about alleged abuse.

“The allegations can be told to you that this individual allegedly was imprisoned in that house until Tuesday,” Kaloyd said. “And my clients are firmly denial that there was incarceration. As far as history goes, I think it’s a good place to release additional information, so there’s a lot that I’d expect to come out in the course of the trial.”
