Connors State University Basketball Player Dies After Game Injury
A Connors State University basketball player has tragically passed away following a head injury sustained during a game. School officials shared the news about sophomore Ethan Dietz, who died on Tuesday.
According to school spokesperson Shannon Rigsby, early reports suggest Dietz experienced some form of head trauma.
The university expressed its sorrow in a statement: “The Cowboy family has suffered an unimaginable loss. As you may know, sophomore Ethan Dietz passed away this morning, November 25th, after being injured during Saturday’s boys basketball game.”
They continued, mentioning, “Ethan exemplified the true spirit of being a Cowboy. He valued hard work and teamwork. Our hearts are with his family and friends as we all navigate this painful moment together.”
The community’s grief was palpable, with several college basketball games canceled in light of Dietz’s passing. “Ethan’s loss serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the impact those close to us have. Let’s honor his spirit and camaraderie as we face this together,” the statement concluded.
In his brief season, Dietz, a 6-foot-8 forward from Vilonia, Arkansas, was averaging 11 points per game. Earlier that same game, he had managed to score eight points and secure four rebounds before the incident occurred.
A vigil in Dietz’s honor is planned for December 1st at the university’s campus in Warner, Oklahoma.
