Rangers’ Edstrom Out Due to Injury
Adam Edstrom didn’t play in Tuesday night’s matchup against the Stars. He left practice early on Monday to check out a lower-body issue.
The Rangers managed to secure a 3-2 victory in overtime, and they’ve identified Edstrom as a regular player when healthy.
In his absence, Conor Sheary stepped back into the lineup for the first time since November 24.
After sitting out the last three games, Sheary found himself on the left wing in the fourth line, playing behind Sam Carrick and Taylor Radish.
Radish participated in the game despite missing Monday’s practice due to personal matters.
Brennan Osman was brought up from AHL Hartford on Monday, providing the Rangers with an extra forward.
Head coach Mike Sullivan noted, “There are several factors at play here. Ultimately, it all comes down to performance. Conversations about these decisions are ongoing. I’ve been in touch with Chris Drury about it.” Sullivan added that Osman has been performing well in Hartford and will be part of the group.
However, Sullivan opted to go with Sheary, so Osman watched from the press box during the game.
Igor Shesterkin was impressive, stopping 23 out of 25 shots, marking his participation in five consecutive games this season, a new high.
The Rangers sent Dylan Garland back to Hartford and called up goaltender Spencer Martin to be Shesterkin’s backup for the game at Madison Square Garden.
Sullivan commented, “We don’t want anyone sidelined for too long. Playing is essential for our players, and that’s something we manage closely. Spencer is someone we don’t know well yet, so this will give us a chance to see him in practice.” He also mentioned Jonathan Quick’s progress as he resumes practice.
Matt Lempe, who has been out for 19 games due to an upper-body injury, is currently skating and following a rehabilitation schedule laid out by the medical team. Sullivan expressed optimism about Lempe’s recovery, noting a structured return plan is in place. They adjust the schedule as he improves, and everyone is encouraged by the progress he’s making.
