After plunging into long-standing mainstream conservative and Christian television, the election of President Donald Trump appears to have changed.
The popular HBO show, “The White Lotus,” surprised viewers when a scene between the three main characters (wealthy women) turned conservatives and seemed to enjoy liberal prejudice.
“I didn't know you went to church,” one of the women asked her friend Kate, played by actress Leslie Bibb, if her church was full of “Bible Thumpers.”

“People are as conservative as people in LA,” Kate replied.
“Is that weird to you?” her friend added, “If I were around a bunch of Texans who voted for Trump, I would think I'm a bit alienated.”
The conversation got even more troubling when Kate explained that she was “independence” who married a Republican, and when asked if she had voted for Trump, she smirked before saying, “Are you really going to talk about Trump tonight?”
Her friend looked in horror.
“A lot of people moved from California to Austin, so I think that's probably an accurate statement, but my husband was already conservative, but especially in 2020, he started going to church after everything.”
“They started to see, 'Oh, these Trump supporters, they're not these crazy Neanderthals the media says they're,” she continues.
According to Bibb, the episode was actually written in 2022, and the season was originally scheduled to be filmed in January 2023. The show was put on hold due to the SAG strike.
“Now that episode has fallen after the 2024 election, it takes on a new importance,” Bib said in an interview, “I feel that everything is so divided, but we don't. I mean, they're all passionate women of all sorts and have all these feelings in all these different stances.”
“Ah, this is conservative code,” laughs Stucky. “The only people who say there are all kinds of women with different kinds of stances are conservatives who talk like that, especially when they're in Hollywood.”
“It also seems like part of this cultural change that it's okay not to portray Trump supporters as stupid and ugly all the time,” she adds.
