Conservative Group Urges Senate Republicans to Stand Firm Against the Green New Deal

Concerns Over Senate’s Approach to Green New Deal

Advance American Freedom (AAF) is urging the Senate to reconsider any plans to end the Green New Deal, based on documents obtained by Daily Caller.

The information suggests that the Senate is taking a “softer” stance on the Green New Deal compared to what was approved in the House, citing multiple “negative changes.” AAF is a conservative organization founded by former Vice President Mike Pence.

According to an AAF statement, the Senate intends to extend various IRA Green Energy Tax Credits beyond 2040 for sources like geothermal, nuclear, and hydroelectric power, and many projects are expected to qualify if they start construction by 2035.

The Senate’s proposal, known as OBBB, removes key elements from the House version. It eliminates a requirement that clean energy projects must begin construction within 60 days before the bill is enacted to qualify for tax credits. Instead, projects must start this year to receive the full benefit.

Thomas Pyle, president of the US Energy Alliance, criticized the Senate’s approach, saying it contradicts President Trump’s campaign promise to “end the new green fraud.” He argues that the Senate should not dilute the House plans to eliminate Biden-era green subsidies, warning that failing to abolish these programs could add trillions to the deficit and raise energy costs for families.

Pyle stated, “There’s nothing beautiful about a big, beautiful bill full of corporate welfare that’s of special interest.”

According to AAF, the Senate’s proposal would increase the $4 trillion debt cap from the House bill to $5 trillion and raise the Child and Addiction Treatment Tax Credit (CDCTC), which they argue pushes stay-at-home parents into the workforce.

The Green New Deal was originally introduced in 2019 by Democrats, including New York State Rep. and Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Edward J. Markey.
