Conservative Group Criticizes LinkedIn Over Post Removal
A conservative advocacy organization is expressing strong disapproval of LinkedIn, even threatening to shut down their accounts after a post supporting President Donald Trump’s immigration policies was temporarily taken down. They attributed this to a mistake by the platform.
The State Freedom Caucus Network (SFCN) shared a message on various sites, including X and LinkedIn, on January 27. The post criticized the Biden administration for allowing over 10 million undocumented immigrants into the country, labeling many as violent criminals. They emphasized the need for states to collaborate with ICE and CBP to remove these individuals, declaring their caucus is actively supporting the President’s safety mission.
However, SFCN claimed that while X authorized the content, LinkedIn flagged it as “hate speech” and removed it. They shared a screenshot of this event, expressing confusion over the censorship.
SFCN remarked sarcastically, “Protecting children is clearly ‘hate,’ but letting actual predators roam free is fine,” adding that Elon Musk doesn’t censor them, unlike LinkedIn. They suggested that their accounts would be deleted due to this incident.
The criticism of LinkedIn gained traction, with various commentators noting the platform’s liberal co-founder Reid Hoffman. In contrast, some pointed to past instances where figures like Obama defended deportations, highlighting a shift in the conversation surrounding immigration.
One commentator, Dustin Grage, stated, “Everyone please delete LinkedIn. It’s just a garbage platform.” Meanwhile, another user, associated with a conservative influencer account, echoed similar sentiments about the need to remove such platforms from their lives.
A spokesperson for LinkedIn later clarified that the removal of the post was indeed an error and that they rectified it quickly. Andrew Ross, president of SFCN, mentioned he received a notice about the takedown before being informed of its reinstatement. He reflected on their commitment to combat “wokeism” and suggested that people should disengage from LinkedIn.
Concerns about bias and censorship have long been echoed by conservative voices on social media. Although the post was restored within hours, experts like Daniel Cochran from the Heritage Foundation believe this situation exemplifies the problematic behaviors of large tech platforms. He pointed out that the arbitrary nature of content moderation often leads to unfair treatment of conservative viewpoints.
Cochran concluded by highlighting the lack of accountability in these platforms, suggesting that the extensive use of vague algorithms contributes to a cycle of censorship rather than resolution.
