Former FBI director James Comey recently shared his admiration for pop icon Taylor Swift in a post on his Substack. He called her “a true inspirational public figure,” especially after her recent appearance on the podcast “New Heights” hosted by NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce.
In his video, Comey reflected on attending Swift’s first concert fifteen years ago, mentioning how he helped finance family members to enjoy the experience. He humorously noted that he’s in a family group chat about her music.
After Comey’s remarks, conservative figure Benny Johnson reacted, suggesting that Comey’s video felt like a “hostage video” and quipped about Swift potentially helping Comey deal with Donald Trump, noting the absurdity of the situation.
In the video, Comey stated the importance of standing up to difficult situations without resorting to the same behavior, referencing Swift’s previous comments urging against the election of Trump and reflecting on the current political climate.
Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza also weighed in, suggesting Comey was trying to appear relatable as a Swift fan while simultaneously critiquing his history of political actions against Trump and others.
Following Comey’s firing by Trump during his first term, the two have had a tumultuous relationship. Earlier this year, Comey stirred controversy with a cryptic post that he later deleted, stating he didn’t intend it to promote any kind of violence. Meanwhile, Comey’s daughter, Maureen, was recently dismissed from her prosecutorial role, which some interpreted as a politically charged decision linked to the family’s history with Trump.
