A massive manhunt has begun for a convicted California murderer who jumped out of a prison van while being taken to a court hearing, authorities said.
Cesar Hernandez, 34, successfully escaped from custody shortly after arriving at Kern County Superior Court in Delano, Central California, around 11 a.m. Monday.
The “dangerous” felon remained at large late Tuesday, California Department of Corrections officials said.
“The public should not confront this individual as he is considered dangerous,” authorities warned.
Authorities said Hernandez is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 161 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.
He was last seen wearing an orange prison uniform.
Before his escape, Hernandez was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for first-degree murder and had been incarcerated since 2019.
Members of the California Highway Patrol, Delano Police Department, and McFarland Police Department assisted in the search.
