Cookbook featuring Idiot Sandwich released after Owen Han's Ramsay contest victory

Gordon Ramsay’s “Idiot Sandwich” Takes on a New Life

It all started a few years back with a viral moment featuring Gordon Ramsay yelling, “What are you?” to a contestant. The contestant, with her head between two pieces of bread, responded with, “A stupid sandwich.”

Now, this phrase has evolved into an actual cookbook featuring over 100 different sandwich recipes. Cooking content creator Owenhan crossed paths with Ramsay during his “Silly Sandwich” contest in Las Vegas, which playfully referenced that signature moment. Owenhan not only participated in the event but also took home the win alongside a celebrity chef.

Since that memorable day, Owenhan has been on a roll, developing a series of original sandwich recipes that are getting attention on TikTok. His unique, exaggerated style of cooking pays homage to Ramsay’s humor and the high standards he sets in the kitchen.

What began as a meme has now turned into a cookbook titled “Stacked,” which has also opened doors for Owenhan in television appearances across the country.

During a segment on ‘Fox & Friends,’ Owenhan explained, “That’s why I’m making a breakfast club sandwich from today [Idiot Sandwich].” He noted that he doesn’t usually eat club sandwiches for breakfast, finding it a little unconventional.

He started layering his breakfast creation with ingredients like basil mayo and roasted turkey. However, he quipped that deli meat can always be a fail-safe option for those who prefer convenience. His version featured prosciutto, tomatoes with chili flakes, fried eggs, and fresh arugula.

When a host joked about the large size of the sandwich, Han playfully responded, “Just go for it. Crush it.” His cooking style has become quite popular, gaining a reputation on social media.

Owenhan mentioned, “My mother is Italian, my father’s Chinese. For me, it’s like having the best of both food cultures.” This unique blend helped him secure the win in Las Vegas with his signature sandwich, which he described as a classic cheesesteak featuring Beijing beef from his Chinese roots and mozzarella cheese along with hot Italian peppers on the Italian side.

He showcased his “Breakfast Club” creation during the broadcast and hinted at the upcoming release of the “Idiot Sandwich” cookbook, scheduled for September 30th. The combination of cultures and delicious ingredients is sure to intrigue sandwich lovers everywhere.
