Corey Feldman Talks Hollywood’s Future with AI

Corey Feldman, known for his role in “The Goonies,” has expressed concern that the increasing presence of artificial intelligence could diminish the unique essence of Hollywood filmmaking.

In a recent interview, Feldman reflected on his extensive experience in the film industry, which includes beloved ’80s films like “The Lost Boys” and “The Burbs.” When asked whether modern Hollywood could replicate the “magic” that defined those classic films, he admitted to some uncertainty.

“I think a lot of that magic is fading due to AI and CGI,” he noted. He stressed the importance of ensuring that technology does not overshadow the core elements that create meaningful art. He worries that as people begin to rely more on AI for everything from music to storytelling, the authentic human touch may fade.

“It won’t be long before they try to replace actors with AI,” he predicted. However, Feldman doubts that such a technology-driven industry could resonate with audiences in the same way. “Will it survive? Will it win? Does it have the same magic? No, I don’t think you can replicate that,” he stated plainly.

With a career spanning 50 years—starting with commercials as a child—Feldman has also shifted his focus towards music, announcing a world tour later this year. He recalls how singing helped him land roles early on, remembering how he sang at auditions when he was too young to read scripts.

Discussing his music, he mentioned his latest single, “Character,” released on June 22, as a homage to his past roles and a celebration of his time in the entertainment business.

When reflecting on Hollywood today compared to when he first started, Feldman believes there are mixed feelings. “There were the ‘good old days,’ sure, but every generation feels that way. It’s just progress, I suppose,” he observed. While he acknowledges the changes, he still appreciates today’s opportunities.

Feldman was also excited about news surrounding a potential sequel to “The Goonies,” which has recently been greenlit by Warner Bros. Although he shares the enthusiasm, he’s cautious about the script and its development, indicating that the original cast is eager but only wants to participate if it’s done right.

He has faith in Spielberg’s involvement, expressing, “I can’t imagine him being wrong. As long as he’s onboard, I believe it will be magical.” Feldman noted that the current revitalization of classic films might be inspired by the box office success of recent projects, like “Beetlejuice Beet Rejuice.”

Overall, while he holds nostalgic views of the past, Feldman remains hopeful for the future of both his career and the industry at large.
