The decomposing body of an 85-year-old woman was discovered inside her Queens apartment on Tuesday, and police and officials say her son may have been living with the body for weeks.
Authorities and law enforcement sources said police made the horrifying discovery while conducting a welfare check at a Forest Hills home at 67th Street and Yellowstone Avenue around 3:15 p.m.
He added that a concerned relative was unable to contact the elderly woman and called 911.
When officers arrived on scene, the woman’s son, who shared the apartment with her, opened the door, officials said.
Officers found the elderly man’s body under a blanket in a bedroom, police and officials said.
Her body had begun to decompose and had apparently been there for about four or five weeks, officials said.

There were no visible traumatic injuries and the cause of death is still under investigation, police said.
According to sources, the woman’s son has a history of bipolar depression.
No criminal activity was immediately suspected and no arrests were made.
