Costco Employee Shot in Ohio After Confrontation Over Weapon
In a tragic incident at a Costco in Strongsville, Ohio, a 61-year-old employee named Randolph E. Corrigan was shot and killed after he confronted a customer carrying a weapon with a drum magazine on April 25. The police received reports of gunfire outside the store around 5:45 p.m. and found Corrigan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital but sadly did not survive.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, 22-year-old Christian M. Bryant from Fort Worth, Texas, approaching the store with the weapon visible. Authorities say Corrigan told Bryant he couldn’t enter with the gun, which led to a violent exchange.
According to court documents, Bryant first fired one shot, then paused before continuing to fire at Corrigan. Reports indicated that Corrigan was shot multiple times, and while he was initially responsive, his condition deteriorated rapidly. Several bystanders came to his aid, with one applying pressure to his wounds until paramedics arrived.
After his arrest, Bryant told police that he wasacting in self-defense, claiming Corrigan approached him with a knife. However, police noted that Corrigan was indeed carrying a pocket knife at the time of the confrontation.
Bryant has been charged with murder and appeared in court, where his bail was set at $5 million. He had a prior criminal record but was not on probation or parole at that point. The case is set to be reviewed by the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury, and more charges may be added.
In the wake of Corrigan’s death, a GoFundMe campaign was established to assist his family with funeral expenses. As of late Tuesday, it had raised over $40,000 toward a $55,000 goal. The campaign described him as a selfless individual who was the primary caregiver for his 86-year-old grandmother and mentioned his love for working at Costco, where he was known for brightening the days of his coworkers and customers.
Advocates seeking justice for Corrigan’s family have expressed hopes that the investigation will lead to accountability, urging anyone with information about the incident to step forward. Representatives from both Costco and the local police department have yet to comment on the matter.
