In recent years, F1 has made no secret of its desire to continue expanding into the United States. Building on the success of the Netflix documentary series drive to survive, which helped introduce new fans to the sport, F1 has increased its presence in the United States in recent seasons. A second race, the Miami Grand Prix, was introduced in the United States in 2022, and the first Las Vegas Grand Prix was held last year. These two races, as well as the US Grand Prix in Austin, which has been part of F1’s schedule since 2012, will remain on the schedule for the 2024 season.
Will Chicago be next?
Keen observers have noted several trademark applications filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by F1 Licensing BV. What about those documents?

Now, this could simply be a move by F1 to protect these names and is not an indication that an actual Grand Prix will be held in the Chicago area any time soon. But it’s worth noting that last season NASCAR had great success with the Grant Park 165, the first-ever NASCAR street race that weaved through the streets of Chicago.
This also comes at a time when F1 appears to be focusing more on street racing. Another street circuit has been introduced to the schedule at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and earlier this month there was news that F1 will host a street race in Madrid from 2026.
So Chicago might be next…
