Could Lionel Messi’s potential re-signing with Inter Miami mean he could play in the 2026 World Cup?

Messi, 37, arrived in Intermiami in July 2023, confirms that his current contract will expire at the end of the year. The team has worked hard to extend their time in South Florida next season, with Messi leading the club to a new stadium, Miami Freedom Park.

Intermiami Managing Owner Jorgemus said FDP Radio Miami That negotiation has progressed and he hopes that it will end with Messi agreeing to extend his time with the club. “My hope is always, and everything we do, to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026. Hopefully, that’s what happens,” he told FDP Radio Miami.

Lionel Messi, who will be staying with Intermiami, will be a great boost for Major League Soccer. It also means a lot to be able to continue selling Messi’s league participation to the world, especially for the league sponsors, Apple and Adidas. For Intermiami, that means their captains can finish the year with the club at their temporary stadium, Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The club is set to move from Miami International Airport to their new stadium, a stone thrower, to Miami Freedom Park, which houses 25,000 people in time for the start of the 2026 season, with having Lionel Messi on their teams being the biggest boost to ticket sales.

FIFA also hopes that the contract extension will mean that it will not take time with Messi’s Argentina national team.
