Country artist Zach Bryan hints at a new song criticizing ICE raids

Grammy Award-winning country artist Zach Bryan has introduced his latest song, “Bad News,” via Instagram, which appears to comment on the rising criticism surrounding immigration enforcement in the U.S.

In a clip shared on Sunday, he references Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE).

His lyrics convey a sense of urgency:

“Well, I got the phone. All the kids are scared and alone. The bars started bumping, the rocks started rolling, the middle finger rose, and I didn’t stop showing, and I got bad news.”

He follows this with, “Fadin of red, white, blue. The decline of red, white, blue.”

Having surged to fame after releasing a hit album through Airbnb rentals in Florida six years ago, the 29-year-old artist has distanced himself from the traditional country music scene, which is often seen as having a conservative lean. Yet, some of his fans are using the platform Magabella to express displeasure with his lyrics.

“I didn’t know Zack was an illegal sympathizer,” one commenter noted.

While some fans criticized the song, others applauded Bryan for addressing the issue.

“Thank you for using your talent to stand up to what’s morally right,” another Instagram user responded.

Currently, Bryan has disabled comments on his Instagram posts, perhaps to manage the backlash.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Bryan typically keeps his political views under wraps. However, he did speak out in 2023 against the discrimination faced by transgender individuals.

“I think it’s completely wrong to insult trans people,” he stated, though his previous comments have been removed from his X account.

“I thought it was a wonderful day to be alive,” he added.

In “Bad News,” he highlights those impacted by the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies, bringing attention to individuals facing heightened enforcement.

ICE has reported mass arrests, with over 32,000 occurring in just the first 50 days of the Trump era.

Recent operations in California, Florida, and Chicago have sparked public outcry and significant protests in those areas. Many families were reportedly taken from their homes unexpectedly, creating chaos.

As part of broader enforcement measures, National Guard troops were deployed to manage protests against law enforcement, particularly in cities with vocal opposition.

In fact, Illinois, Oregon, and California are among the states that have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration, arguing that military involvement in such actions is unlawful.
