Florida Couple Arrested in Connection to Missing Infant
A couple from Florida, Leon Alejandro Jr., 21, and Samantha Feliz, 20, has been arrested in North Carolina following a year-long investigation into their missing infant. Authorities suspect that they initially claimed the child never existed.
The pair was apprehended in Rockingham, North Carolina, after allegedly fleeing while police in Hollywood, Florida, were investigating the infant’s disappearance. They were taken into custody by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals on extradition warrants and are currently being held without bail.
The investigation began in early 2025 when it was reported that Feliz may have given birth sometime between December 6, 2024, and January 5, 2025. Authorities concluded that the birth was concealed and took place outside of a hospital.
It was reported that a family member saw the couple with the baby when the child was around one month old. After that, the child was never seen again. According to the arrest warrant, the last known photo of the toddler was taken on January 5, 2025, and the infant appeared “visibly ill and malnourished,” with “no signs of life” evident in the image.
Authorities attempted to search multiple locations for the child’s body but did not find it. The investigation uncovered that Alejandro and Feliz continually denied the child’s existence, at times referring to the situation as a “prank.” They later claimed the pregnancy was a “hoax” aimed at extracting money from their family.
Despite the absence of birth certificates or medical records, investigators collected sufficient evidence—including the recovery of baby clothes and a positive pregnancy test—to charge both individuals with serious offenses. These charges include aggravated manslaughter of a child and providing false information regarding a missing child.
Details indicate that they had been living on property belonging to one of Alejandro’s relatives in Richmond County before their arrest on July 22. Richmond County Sheriff Mark Gulledge noted the collaborative efforts of various agencies leading to their capture, emphasizing the importance of working together to uphold justice.
As of now, specific information about what may have happened to the infant remains undisclosed. Authorities have yet to provide further updates on the investigation.
