This drawer isn’t just junk!
A recent find in a drawer has unexpectedly transformed the lives of a couple in New Jersey who had forgotten their goals.
While cleaning out a neglected drawer in their Mercer County home, they stumbled upon three Mega Million tickets purchased on New Year’s Eve from the West Trenton Speedmart Food Store.
They had completely forgotten about the tickets and, consequently, hadn’t checked the numbers.
This all changed earlier this month, thanks to some spring cleaning efforts.
“I just opened the drawer and saw the ticket,” one of the winners remarked, choosing to remain anonymous.
“I figured I’d have them checked. I scanned the first two, which both said ‘not a winner,’ and then I scanned the last one and it said ‘winner.'”
The winning ticket turned out to be worth $1 million.
Lucky for them, the ticket wasn’t close to expiring.
In New Jersey, lottery winners have up to a year from the drawing date to claim their prizes.
The couple has already decided how to use this unexpected windfall.
“For us, it’s really about helping our kids and ensuring they’re not burdened with debt,” they shared.
