Chicago Couple’s Wedding Plans Changed in Light of Violence in Mexico
Kaitlyn Bucaro and Robbie Morris had eagerly anticipated their wedding in Guadalajara, Mexico, set for Friday. However, their plans took a dramatic twist this week due to escalating violence following the death of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, also known as “El Mencho.”
In light of safety warnings, the Chicago couple decided to cancel their long-planned destination wedding. Despite this, they remained committed to tying the knot on the originally scheduled date. With just a few days to spare, they quickly sought out a new venue and vendors for their reception.
As luck would have it, a local restaurant stepped in to assist. Nicholas Cuda, managing partner of Chicago’s Alston restaurant, expressed his willingness to help during an interview. He said, “Let’s see what we can do to help.” It was a heartwarming response amidst a stressful situation.
Bucaro reflected on the heartbreak of canceling their wedding, saying it felt like grieving a lost dream. They had to inform around 150 guests about the change in plans, which added another layer of difficulty to an already emotional week.
Both Bucaro and Morris experienced a whirlwind of emotions, often alternating between tears and determination. “We realized we still wanted to get married, whether in Guadalajara or not,” Morris recounted.
With only a week to make arrangements, Bucaro found herself monitoring news alerts about the violence, which prompted quick decision-making. “I’m sad that our vision for the wedding wasn’t able to come to life,” she shared with local media. Yet, they were resolute that being surrounded by their loved ones was what truly mattered.
Eventually, they secured a venue at The Alston Restaurant in Chicago, which was accommodating to their needs. Savannah Jimenez from the restaurant remarked on the challenge of organizing a last-minute event and expressed happiness in assisting the couple during their time of need.
Unfortunately, Bucaro and Morris’ wedding wasn’t the only event impacted by the violence; several professional soccer matches were postponed, along with numerous concerts and performances throughout Mexico. With the heightened tensions and ongoing safety concerns, events like these have been rescheduled, signaling a broader impact on gatherings in the region.
As of now, the situation in Mexico remains unstable, with the U.S. State Department urging caution for travelers, emphasizing a need for heightened awareness amid ongoing developments.
