Couple weds at City Hall amid Knicks parade celebration

Love in the Midst of Celebration

Something old, something new, something orange, something blue.

In the midst of the Knicks’ chaotic ticker-tape parade, a couple tied the knot on Thursday at City Hall.

Jillian Solomon and Andrew Solomon celebrated their wedding day with a sense of joy that they thought would come with a “very low-key” vibe.

“Walking to the courthouse surrounded by thousands of Knicks fans is something I’ll never forget. People were cheering, taking photos, and even helping me navigate through the crowd,” said 27-year-old Jillian the day after. “We truly love this city, and we have some of the best people in the world here.”

The couple’s simple, traditional ceremony nearly got overshadowed by the overwhelming Knicks fan base that attracted a record 2 million people to the parade. They had made their reservations back in February, long before the Knicks’ championship journey began.

“We chose City Hall because we wanted a very low-key celebration. We met in the city, lived here together for four years; it’s a huge part of our story,” Jillian explained.

Canceling their appointment was out of the question, particularly with family traveling to be part of the occasion. Waiting for another appointment would have been weeks, and who has time for that?

To top it all off, the couple couldn’t drive to City Hall due to congested streets, forcing them to don their wedding attire—white gowns and tuxedos—and take the subway instead.

This was not the first time the Knicks played a significant role in their wedding plans; they won the NBA championship on the same day that Jillian was out celebrating her bachelorette party.

However, once inside City Hall, Jillian, 27, and Andrew, 33, were treated like stars—making even notable players seem envious.

After hours of the NYPD restricting fans from entering, the couple finally was granted access to the parade route. Fans even moved from their spots to help secure a perfect shot for the couple’s wedding album.

Following the ceremony, blue and orange confetti rained down on them, with some even adorning Jillian’s dress.

“Everyone noticed the tuxedos and bridal outfits and made them a priority. It epitomizes the New York spirit, especially with all the energy buzzing around,” commented the couple’s photographer, Gianna Curley.

“It was non-stop congratulations. I joked with them that every time someone said ‘congratulations,’ they should take a shot. They replied, ‘That’ll be dangerous!’”

The Solomons were just one of the many couples getting married at City Hall amid the parade festivities, with some ceremonies underway as Mayor Mamdani gave a celebratory speech outside.

Interestingly, Jillian mentioned that even though she wasn’t a fan before, she is now, largely because of this extraordinary experience.

“They embraced the moment and what this city had to give. The energy was simply unreal, and they thought, ‘Why not?’” remarked Carly.

“It was a spectacular and unique day. They’ll have stories to share with their grandchildren in the future, and they’re just happy.”
