Brutal Murder Case Unfolds in Queens

A 26-year-old man is charged with the murder of his mother, brutally attacking her with a machete in their Far Rockaway home, prosecutors revealed on Wednesday.

The horrific incident took place on Tuesday morning, leading to the death of 61-year-old Joanne Crawford. Details shared in court indicated that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds, including one that pierced her liver and another that severely injured her throat.

Queens Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Luza described the scene, stating, “The victim sustained 11 stab wounds. One stab wound in her abdomen went through her liver. Another, in her throat, caused severe damage.” The level of violence inflicted was shocking.

Authorities found Joanne inside her house around 10:40 a.m. It’s noted that her son, Amell Crawford, fled the scene, running into the ocean in an apparent attempt to evade arrest. He was later captured on the Rockaway Boardwalk.

During the court proceedings, it was mentioned that Amell’s actions seemed desperate, with one source suggesting he looked like he was trying to harm himself.

He faces charges for second-degree murder and possession of a weapon, with the judge ordering him held without bail.
